This story makes me melt. Kelly- Anne and Sean were friends when they were young, wild and free. Just a couple weeks ago they got hitched.

Kelly sent me a request for a surprise wedding gift to Sean, a split frame portrait, with one half when they were young(er) and one of them more recently. I love surprises! The best was Sean didn’t even know she had the pictures of them when they were younger. I was also excited because this would be my first split portrait, and the perfect “now and then” portrait. Kelly loved the black and white concept of the photo- but agreed a little bit of blues would add some depth.

I’ll have to admit… I saved painting the beard for the last part, because it was my first attempt at painting a watercolor beard period… and I was nervous. Much to my relief, Kelly got back to me and this is what she said… “LOVE it!!!! You nailed the beard!!!!” Yes.

This is what else she said:

Who is the portrait of?  Sean and I

Are you happy with the way it turned out?

Couldn’t be happier.  LOVE it.

Why did you choose to get this portrait made?

It was a gift for my husband on our wedding day.

Is there anything else you would like to share about the photograph or person in the painting?

I thought it would be a cool idea to have two portraits in one, past and present.  Sean and I met when I was 18 and him 20, and then reconnected over a decade later.  Marina took this idea and made it a reality much better than I imagined.  The composition was perfect, it is truly an amazing work of art.

Was Sean happy with the painting and surprised by it?

Yes.  In Sean’s words: “It is not something I would have ever expected, but I am so happy to have received it.  I am so glad that I have such an amazing piece of heart work to look back on that special day with”.

How did you hear about Marina’s art?  I know Marina from high school days and have had the pleasure to see her talent at work throughout the years.  I always knew I would have her art on my wall someday, and couldn’t think of a better occasion!

These were the photo’s…

Kelly- Anne,
Thank you for thinking of me to help with the one most significant gifts you could give, your wedding gift to Sean. I was totally touched that I could be a part of this in some way. I LOVE the photo’s of the two of you now and then, and I wish the both of you so much love, growth and joy on your journey. How exciting!! I am SO happy for you two, that you found each other again.
